Impermanence is a natural part of human life at and outside work.

At AutoUncle, retaining great talent is a high priority. At the same time, we understand that it is natural that the organisational makeup change as we grow and evolve as an organisation. Our ambition is for everyone at AutoUncle to flourish and have impact during their tenure at AutoUncle and also we accept that at some point, there will be a time for people to move on whether that happens via resignation or layoff.

Facing layoffs as a manager

Most managers will eventually face a moment where they need to say goodbye to a team member. Lesser experienced managers tend to expect this to be a grim experience and although it can be a painful or a sad thing to take part in, it does not have to be.

We find that the process of saying goodbye to someone can turn out positively if you handle things with integrity, compassion and diligence.

Exit interviews

When people leave AutoUncle it is a valuable point for learning because what they share may help us improve our workplace and ways of working.

That’s why it is a standard procedure for People Operations to conduct exit interviews with everyone that leave the company.

Who

People Operations conducts the interview objectively and with the purpose of acquiring honest answers from the former employee.

When

The exit interview takes place no later than three weeks after the employee leaves AutoUncle. It can be helpful to give the former employee some space for reflection, but not so much that memory deteriorates.

Where

Whether the interview is going to be conducted through an online meeting or face-to-face is up to the former employee.

After the exit interview

After the interview, People Operations will share interview takeways with you and may recommend something to take action on or reflect upon. Takeaways are typically also shared with your direct manager in the spirit of transparency.

We encourage you to study the outcome of exit interviews carefully to crystallise any valuable learnings and actions that you can share and operationalise.

For any questions or support to the above please reach out to People Operations.
