We love the flexibility that remote work gives us to dedicate energy to deep work while also allowing us more space to craft our lives as we see fit.

These principles are to help us balance that flexibility with the responsibilities and realities of working on a team.

Working together means working at the same time

To collaborate effectively, it’s important to find ways to work closely even across great physical distances. For that reason, we want the bulk of our work to happen at the same time of day.

We only recruit colleagues who live in GMT 0, +1, +2 and +3 time zones to ensure that our working hours naturally align. We discourage all-nighters (not only do they make it harder to collaborate, they’re also counterproductive in the long run.)

Each day starts with a brief video standup, and we collaborate via video meetings to discuss, spar and make decisions to help us through each sprint.

We invest in our relationships

As a remote colleague, we know you are often working alone. Solitude can be a blessing and a curse. We believe all humans need social calories to thrive, and we want remote work to still provide a social outlet.

In a physical office environment, we get to know each other organically through coffee chats, lunches, and “in between work” conversations. In a remote setting, we have to be more deliberate about creating community and building friendships.

We do that by:

We are remote-first, not remote-exclusive

We want to work with teammates who know they can thrive in a remote setup, but we acknowledge that there is no substitute for in-person connection.

We aim to meet in person once a quarter for offsite meetups to strengthen our teamwork and have some fun. And while a majority of our meetups are virtual, we try to supplement those with in-person events when appropriate.
