Share good and bad news quickly

We want to be part of your celebrations when things are going well and we want to support you when they don’t. For that to be possible we ask that you share good and bad news when they happen. Whether you make a call, post on Slack or send an email is not important. If you are unsure if news is relevant or meaningful enough or to share, do it anyway in the spirit of over-communicating.

You develop trust when your peers can take joy in your achievements (the positive news) and support you in the learnings (the negative news). It is when news spread slowly that skepticism grows and trust drops.

Run by the numbers

AutoUncle is inherently a data-driven company. We like to make decisions based on data and expect you to do the same. As responsible for an area in the business, we expect you to be on top of the KPIs of that area and consistently work to find ways where data can help you and your team achieve better results.

Make smart decisions

We want you to act with courageousness, but be smart about important or irreversible decisions. Think about:

Prioritize personal development

As human beings we all have areas that we are not naturally strong in. As managers it is important that we develop an increasing awareness of those areas and actively work on improving the things that can make us better managers.

At AutoUncle we expect that you develop an awareness about your personal growth areas and find ways to improve. We want to support you in these efforts and find great help in working with coaches and psychologists and other specialists. Please help us understand how the company can support your personal development as a manager.

Share what concerns you

Working at a scale-up company can come with a lot of pressure, especially if you have management responsibility. When you are facing adversity, remember to be compassionate with yourself. Sharing with your manager what keeps you up at night is a great way of releasing some pressure and overcoming challenges together.

A common mistake new managers make is that they express that “things are going great and I’m in control” in the spirit of being positive and hard working. This is a terrible mistake. If you do not proactively share what concerns you have and what risks you see, it will make your manager uncomfortable. Senior managers know that things break and that nothing operates with perfections. Unless you share both the good and the bad your manage will become concerned about whether they can trust you with the responsibility you have.
